There was wildfire smoke in the sky. There was dust on the trails. And there were more fellow-hikers than we generally like to see in the wilderness. But we got out, we enjoyed views of the always impressive peak of Mount Adams, we swam in more than one lake, and we relished the sound of several waterfalls. I will take a night out in the wilderness under the stars, even with less than perfect conditions, anytime I can get it. Follow it up with a nice long car ride home with Barry, complete with good music and iced coffee, and it's pretty much exactly what I want out of summer.
