Camping Season On

A couple weeks ago, we had unbelievably amazing weather here in the Pacific Northwest.  Had you noticed the lack of posts for a while?  I was busy dealing with sunshine.  It was our cue to pack up the car and head for the hills.  Or a river.  Or wherever we could find a great campground.  Lower Falls campground on the Lewis River in Washington was where we ended up.  And it was awesome - an entire campground almost all to ourselves on the side of a beautiful river next to a trail that led to three gorgeous, rainbow-inducing waterfalls.  Cooking on an open fire, sleeping under the stars, sunning on warm rocks on the side of the river.  Yes, yes, and yes.  And the campground came equipped with the perfect chopping block on which Barry split logs for the fire.  I couldn't ask for anything better.  Maybe just more of the same this weekend.

One of our favorite places EVER! We go almost every year, and are very sad when we don't. I was last there in September, and it was a magical trip.

Sounds like a fantastic time. I really get geeked out at campfire cooking. It's a completely different cooking/eating experience. I've gotten good at making "grunts" over a fire. (Meat or fruit stew with dumplings) The worst part of camping for me is packing and cleaning up the tent especially after a rainy camping weekend.
