I went to Los Angeles this week for work. The flight down the west coast is gorgeous. I had my face pressed to window the entire time.
It was a one-night trip. I was psyched to bring only the little satchel that I carry around on a daily basis. Simplification is becoming an obsession.
In bed by 10 on New Year's Eve, up before the crack of dawn on New Year's Day, bundled up tight against the cold, cameras in hand. We've developed a New Year's ritual. We'd started a little tradition when we lived in New York that involved getting up really early on New Year's Day to take a long, quiet walk from our place in Queens over the Queensboro Bridge through Times Square and down to lower Manhattan. We continued the practice this year with a walk from our place in northwest Portland over the Burnside Bridge to the Doug Fir for coffee and J & M for breakfast. We took tons of photos along the way. It made me think I might need to get back to doing Original Intent posts. It's been a while.
Christmas in Virginia with Barry's parents was great. We got enough snow to have a white Christmas without having any of our travel plans delayed. We had lots of good hanging out time. We ate like royalty. We got the the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to see the Sally Mann exhibit. And we got up to D.C. where we ordered a grown up sofa (you'll see lots of pictures when it arrives next month) and visited the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
