Don't Worry Mom - This One's Not the One

We've been looking with diligence at apartments, hoping to find one that's right for us to buy. We've been drawn to some modern construction - clean lines, white walls, totally simple, very us. But not much has seemed just right. Maybe we need to open our search up to houses. Driving home from another viewing this morning, we passed this sad little house with a "For Sale" sign in the window:

It was totally decrepit - pipes torn out of the bathroom wall, broken windows all around, a yard overgrown with threatening, thorny vines. The little romantic in me thought something about it was really endearing and wanted to buy it immediately and give it new life. The big anal retentive monster in me brought the romantic to her senses, but let her take a few photos before pushing on. The search continues...

I'm enjoying the dialogue with you and your mom! :)

Get yourselves a house. Maybe with a little garden?! Is there a slightly rundown that needs a bit of fixing up but not an insane amount?

Good luck!

Good luck in your search!
I was kinda sad looking at this house, 'cause I see the potential, but it would need major $ and a whole lotta time.

Oh lordy...it IS a bit romantic. Before reality sets in...I'm sure you'll find something that will be more you and less TLC...I've got my fingers crossed!!

Oh, blessings on the search. It's exhausting at times. But then, you find the "one" and it all starts to be worthwhile.

Scary! That house is in my neighborhood. It terrifies me. Were you inside? Must be a complete freak fest in there! You actually made it look better than it does in real life!

yeah, romantic like those renovation shows that show the amazing after, a few bad shots of condemn-worthy before, but never the Hell-ish 5 in-between years.

happy thoughts, happy thoughts are comin' your way!

Sigh... we almost bought a house very similar to that. It was built in the 1920's and there were two tiny bedrooms with no closets and one bathroom. All the window sills were rotting out and it had broken windows. I was fond of the idea of fixing it up too, but now I'm VERY glad we didn't buy it. Whew!

I bet it is a teardown which makes me sad. {for some reason I get really sad at the thought of tearing down a house regardless of its shape)

Anyway, I totally see the potential - I can see adding a second level :)

But really, if they just added some simple landscaping, did a paint job, took down the bad window treatment the house would be adorable and at least get someone in the door to look at it.

Love the title! Romantic ideas never seem to hold their appeal. Too bad though. Good luck with the hunt!

I love hearing and seeing what you've been up to. Trespassing I see:) I feel the same way about those houses left in shambles. Good luck in your search! Wish I could send you a modern flat from here! *a

What is it with deserted houses that start something in us!? I totally get your feeling when I look at these pictures.
