I Hate White Chocolate

Hate it. So what on earth would possess me to make this cookie recipe from Smitten Kitchen last night? Simple: my hatred for white chocolate is far surpassed by my love of salt. And a cookie recipe that calls for salt to be dusted on the top of cookies before baking them is worth trying in my book. The verdict: white chocolate can be my friend as long as salt's around.

As Portland braces for an insane heat wave, I'm firing up the oven to bake every night. Tonight, I'm thinking pistachio bars.

Oh my gosh... chocolate AND salt?? And I even love white chocolate! I'm definitely trying this recipe...

Have a great weekend! I hope you don't melt in front of the oven!

Just your headline alone made me laugh. Oh! I am wearing some of your earrings today! Also loved the post about your hair/vintage buttons, and the photo of you in that cherry dress. There's a heatwave in the Bay Area, CA too!

Dear Suzy,

Okay so am on your blog for the third time today! Couldn't resist printing out the recipe for Crispy Salted Oatmeal White Chocolate Cookies because you know how Dad loves SALT!!!

Then of course had to highlight Smitten Kitchen, copied and printed the Cherry Cornmeal Upside-Down Cake not realizing that it is in the June 08 Bon Appetit which came but I haven't had the time to read.

Have a set of 3 iron skillets which I have not used yet, bought around the same time as the 7 1/2 quart Martha Stewart cast iron pot (also not used yet, but have that wonderful beef short ribs recipe that I got at that Williams Sonoma class that uses that special wine and was always going to make that bread recipe from you that bake in that type of pot).

The good thing is that the skillets and the pot were on special sales at Macy's,so I am ready! Love, Mom

Do you eat everything you bake...I refuse to bake because I would eat it all. Oh and the chocolate and salt thing....wonderful! I have a friend who makes the best "salty brownies."
